4 POINT GUIDE: CREATING A SUCCESSFUL WEBSITE

1. Whether your intent is to sell or simply offer information, your homepage should tell visitors what it is that you do and/or what it is that you have to offer. Keep your text short and to the point. You only have a few seconds to get someone's attention. If they don't find what they're looking for in those few seconds they will be gone.

2. The "basic" of all other pages is to motivate your site visitor to delve deeper (i.e. follow the links) for the appropriate information, goods or services that they may be interested in. In some cases, your main goal may simply be to get your visitor to call or email you. If you have too much information, or not enough information, they will move on.

3. Each web page should have a "call to action" on it. The action may be to place an order then and there, or it can be to call your phone number or fill in a form with their name, email address and phone number. The action may be to read the page, or to print a copy of the page. The action may simply be to lead to the next appropriate page of your site so they find the information they are looking for, or even to explore for information that they may not have originally intended to find.

4. Use colors and font styles that are easy to read and pleasing to the eyes. Be careful to not get too fancy or cluttered with your pages. Keep things simple, easy to navigate and uncomplicated.
